Congratulations to Barrie's new MPP Ann Hoggarth, and Ontario's re-elected premier Kathleen Wynne.
Thank you to all the 3018 people of Barrie who trusted in me and the Green Party of Ontario, and took the time to vote for me. I am deeply humbled, and I will continue to work hard for you and our Green Party values.
Thank you also to Erich Jacoby-Hawkins, my unfailingly patient campaign manager, and to all the volunteers who worked so hard for me and the Green Party. Your dedication means everything.
The Green Party of Ontario made a big impact on this election. Our smart, clear platform was highly regarded in Barrie and across the province. Our key initiatives — especially merging the school board — earned attention and respect from media and voters. We ran a full slate of candidates and offered all voters across Ontario the chance to vote Green.
The upward trend in support for the Green Party of Ontario was reflected in the ballot box in yesterday's election. Voters across Ontario accorded the Greens 4.93% of the popular vote, which represents a healthy 2% increase from 2011. Barrie likewise saw almost a 2% rise to 6.2% support. Party leader Mike Schreiner placed third in the riding of Guelph with over 19% of the votes. Overall, the Greens finished with the party's second highest vote total ever, in Barrie and in Ontario.
We look forward to your continued support. Please sign up for our email newsletter so we can keep in you up-to-date on all Green happenings in Barrie.
